The Dynamic Duo of Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal

I must admit, Russell Westbrook being a Washington Wizard will take some time to get used to. But now that we’re here, we should look forward to what could possibly be a great thing in DC. With the blockbuster trade that occurred Wednesday night, it leaves us wondering what is the ceiling of the Washington Wizards from here on.

Despite not being the number one option last season, Russell Westbrook still produced at a high level. He averaged 27.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and seven assists. And during a stretch of the season where James Harden was struggling, Westbrook took control of the offense and was a high flyer just as he has always been. It was unfortunate that things didn’t pan out well for the Rockets in the playoffs. But everything happens for a reason and now it places Westbrook in a new environment.

As for Bradley Beal, this guy had a monster season that was definitely overlooked. With John Wall being sidelined due to injury, the situation allowed Beal to become more aggressive with the ball in his hands, which put him amongst the top scorers in the NBA. Beal averaged 30.5 points while shooting 45% from the field.

Although it was a productive offensive season for Beal, you could tell that he wanted more output on the season. The lack of competitiveness from the organization forced him to be overlooked as an all star caliber player. At this point in his career, Beal needs to have solid pieces around him to win.

There is a chance that Westbrook and Beal can really compliment one another and end the streak of losing seasons. Both being competitors at their position, this could be a golden opportunity for the two to become the best backcourt in the Eastern Conference.

It is important that Westbrook allows Beal to be the one to carry the team on offense. Beal is a young gunner that is hungry for success. As Westbrook continues to age, he must understand how to sacrifice his scoring for the success of the team. If these two stars are able to coexist on the court together, the Wizards could shock the world this season.

The expectations for the Wizards will be high now that the former MVP is on the team. And there is no more excuses if the team fails to make the playoffs this season. Westbrook and Beal have a lot of responsibilities on their shoulders to make the Wizards a relevant team once again.

It was time for a new scenario for everyone. Russell Westbrook just might be what Bradley Beal needed all along - a point guard who is an explosive playmaker at his position. The duo of Westbrook and Beal could be an exciting one to watch.
